ISBN or International Standard Book Number is a unique 13-digit unique identification number assigned to each monograph publishing book. The ISBN identifies the registrant as well as the specific title, edition and format.

There is a set list of products that can acquire an number Ensure your product (book) is eligible for application for ISBN registration. 

The following products cannot apply for ISBN:

  • Serials/periodicals/journals
  • Record books
  • Videos/ DVDs/ other entertainment media or documentaries in this format..
  • Computer games/ application packages
  • Music Scores
  • Items available to a restricted group
  • Websites.
  • Non text-based publications.

Once you have ensured your product is eligible, the next step is to register yourself using this link. You will be asked to fill in basic details including email-id for verification purposes. 

After receiving a login id and password, you can now move towards by clicking on Apply for a New Application. Please note, if you have already applied previously for ISBN online, then only after you have used 90% of those numbers, you will be able to apply for a new set of ISBN.

You will require the following documents:

  1. Scanned copy of PAN CARD of publishing agency or head of the publishing agency
  2. Scanned copy of proof of address of the publishing agency or head of the publishing agency. 
  3. Scanned copy of Udyog Aadhaar of publishing agency or Aadhaar of proprietor /Director.

In case you are self-publishing your book, then you can attach your own document for the above steps. Once uploaded, click on SAVE and then SUBMIT TO AGENCY.

You are notified on your registered email id about any updates and can track any development (like clarifications sought on the agency’s part) on your application dashboard.

Once the agency has allotted you your ISBN series, you can apply for ISBN registration of your book(s) by filling in your book details including title, edition, volume, page numbers and cover page. You can apply for books in bulk. 

Allotment of ISBN registration takes time, like from 25-30 days . You must check your dashboard daily for any kind of latest information.

If a publisher is applying for an ISBN in behalf of the author, it will issued soon (7-15 days).

Copyright Registration

The process for Copyright Registration is not easy at all. It is as similar as registration of trademark. This registration can be applied by the author itself with a proper knowledge. But, if the author is new at this, we would recommend you to not apply for copyright. If you still wants to apply, let us help you.
